I woke up this morning in so much pain that if I wouldn't already have had an appointment scheduled I would have been calling the doctor asking if I should be seen or needed to go to the hospital...
I wasn't having contractions, but was in constant pain. There was so much pressure in my pelvis, it felt like my hips were breaking.
I made it to the doctor... and the nurse who took my back said "I'm not going to even ask how you are, you look like you're in a lot of pain!"
The doctor came in and we talked for a minute and then she checked everything out.
Peyton has dropped down low into my pelvis, the word she used was "engaged." This mean the kiddo will stay head down until he comes out... so that's good... but it also means that I am going to have pain/pressure until he comes out.
She agreed that I'm not having contractions, but uterus just seems to be really tight and not relaxing. There's been a few times it has "relaxed" in the past couple hours and when that happens, I am comfortable and most of the pain goes away... and then it comes back...
She said that based on her exam and my past labor history, that I am in the early stages of labor. She said history could repeat itself and this could go on for a few weeks, or I could go into active labor any time.
At this point, they won't do anything to stop labor if I start to progress, but its recommend that I don't do anything to encourage it to progress for a couple more weeks. The goal is to make it to 37 weeks (December 29). My hope is to make it until 38 weeks (Jan 5th... the day after Brent gets back from winter camp with the teens).
She said that if I was still pregnant and miserable at 38 weeks, she could strip my membranes to try to help things along and if I made it to 39 weeks (Jan 12), she would happily induce me. She said we would talk about those options more if we get there.
She also gave me a prescription for a back brace for after I give birth. After I had Colby, I had major back pain where I broke my back. Wearing my back brace helped, but it was a pain to get on and off and I couldn't nurse in it. She recommended a specific durable medical supply place to go to and see what they would recommend. She wrote the prescription generic enough that I will be able to get whatever brace they recommend and hopefully we can avoid the back pain this time around.

Christmas Adventures Week Two
December 7
Today our adventure was to go to our church's live nativity. Grandma and Grandpa Franks came along with us (so that I wouldn't have to take the kids by my self because Brent was in the nativity). We had a lot of fun on the horse drawn wagon ride watching the different parts of the Christmas story. And then having hot chocolate and cookies! We were very thankful that it was WAY warmer this year than it was last year!
December 8
Our planned Christmas adventure for today was to make sugar cookies (gluten free, of course!) The kids all helped cut out the shapes... but apparently daddy only took pictures of them watching me roll out the dough!
We also went to Battle Creek today to celebrate Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa Cary since we won't be able to attend the Cary Family Christmas (because Brent has to work).
December 9
Today we decorated the cookies! The kids did a decent jobs and didn't make too much of a mess!
I let them each pick what color frosting they wanted... Emily picked pink, Kyle picked blue, and Colby picked yellow.
By the way... the cookies were pretty good and are already all gone!

December 10
Today's activity was to make snow man decorations. They didn't get done on the right day (due to a weird day with no heat in our house!).... but they did get done!
Emily's is on top, Kyle's on bottom, and Colby's is on the side (Colby had the most help!)!

December 11
Today's activity was the watch the Charlie Brown Christmas Movie. The kiddos seemed to enjoy it... they kept saying "Christmas is about Jesus, not Christmas trees or presents!"
December 12
Today's activity was to make Christmas cards for grandparents. (Grandmas and Grandpas act surprised when they give you your cards!)
December 13
Today's activity was supposed to be to play in the snow, but we currently done have any snow...
So, we are going to watch Elf and eat popcorn and cuddle!

Colby's Ears
Colby has had five ear infections since February.
His most recent one was diagnosed two weeks before Thanksgiving. He was seen at a walk in clinic in town, so I called his pediatrician and asked for a referral to an ENT.
He finished up his antibiotics the day before Thanksgiving. A few days before his antibiotics were done, he started complaining about about his ears hurting.
On Black Friday, we took him to a peds urgent care because our peds office was closed and I really wanted him to be seen by a pediatrician. She checked his ears the best she could, but saw LOTS of hard wax build up. It took some work to be able to actually see his ear drums. She wasn't sure the doctor who had diagnosed him two weeks prior had actually been able to see his ear drums... She told us to use some drops that would soften the wax and the follow up with our pediatrician in a week or so if he wasn't improving.
Last Friday, we went and saw our pediatrician. He had a nurse irrigate Colby's ears because there was just too much wax to "scoop" it out. It was pretty nasty...the nurse said she had never seen someone so little have so much wax! After his ears were cleaned out, the doctor checked them out. Both ears were full of fluid, but there was no sign of an infection. He said that the fluid meant there was most likely an infection coming or going. We then had a talk about tubes and Colby's ears and he said that he really thinks Colby would benefit from tubes. I was kind of on the fence about tubes, but really respect our pediatrician and after discussing it with him I was thinking they sounded like a good idea for the little guy.
Yesterday we finally had Colby's appointment with the ENT. They first checked his hearing and everything was great there! Then we met with the doctor and he looked at Colby's ears and listened to his history of ear infections. At the appointment, one of Colby's ears had fluid and the other was clear. The doctor recommend tubes based on the exam and what I told him. He addressed my concerns about general anesthesia (he had a hard time waking up after his scope) and answered my questions (and Mike's... who went with me to the appointment). Brent and I had already pretty much decided that if it was recommended by the ENT, we would do the tubes. So after the appointment, I met with the scheduler and we set up surgery for next Wednesday morning.
So, starting next Thursday, we are expecting no more ear pain or ear infections for Colby!

Christmas Adventures Week One
December 1
Today we put up our Christmas tree!
Mommy put the lights on, and then the kids all took turns picking out ornaments and helping put them on the tree.
December 2
Today we got out our Little People Nativity.
They helped take everything out of the boxes and set it all up. They were telling us who all the people were and enjoyed playing with it most of the morning! Yay for "new" toys to keep kiddos entertained!
December 3
Today we put up our nativity decals. They are now on the window on the front door because they weren't sticking very well to the wall.. but I never took a picture of them in their new location.
The kiddos helped picked out the character I was looking for and we talked about each one and the part they played in the first Christmas.
December 4
We made wreaths today. I cut out the wreath and the bows. Then the kids glued the bows on (with a little help) and finger painted the berries on (with a little help).
December 5
Today's adventure was the Ionia Christmas Light Parade. Grandma and Grandpa Franks came and went to the parade with us. I didn't take any pictures (Grandpa did, so maybe if I get some of his I'll update the post with a couple). The kiddos seemed to enjoy it... and the adults enjoyed the fact that it wasn't as cold as it has been in the past!
December 6
Today we made snow flakes. We used coffee filters and let the kiddos cut... with a little bit of help! :) Its the first time any of them have used scissors that I know of... so they were having a fun time trying to figure them out!
We hung up our "beautiful snow lakes" on door frames in the living room!
