All Done!

We went and saw the neurosurgeon today about Kyle's head! The doctor and the helmet guy said everything looks good and that Kyle can be done wearing his helmet!

I think Emily is the most excited about the helmet going away... Kyle will no longer be able to bonk her with it and give her black eyes. Kyle is probably going to miss it... as he has gotten used to using it as a crash helmet!

Kyle is Almost Done with His Helmet

Yesterday we had an appointment with the helmet people for Kyle. His measurements all looked good, so the helmet man told us to schedule an appointment with the neurosurgeon in about a month and as long as he says everything looks good, Kyle should be done with his helmet.
We go see the doctor on February 22, and the helmet man will come meet see the doctor with us. And hopefully that day we'll be done with the helmet!

Kyle's Physical Therapy

We Got A Big Ol' Zero!

Kyle went today for a helmet adjustment. As always, they did his head measurements... and the difference between the right side and the left side... ZERO! We were told when we got the helmet, that most of the time they can get it to 1/4 inch difference, but not to expect much more than that! So a ZERO is pretty much amazing! Kyle has a perfectly round head!

There seems to be some questions about how much longer Kyle is in the helmet. We have been told three different things by three different people. First we were told that he would only be in the helmet for a couple weeks after his head was "fixed". Then we were told that once his head was "fixed" he would only wear the helmet at night. And today we were told that he would keep wearing it until his first birthday. We got back again in three weeks for another adjustment, so we'll see what they say then and also schedule an appointment with the neurosurgeon to get the official answer!

Update on Kyle's Head

We went to get Kyle's helmet adjusted today. Now he only has a difference of 1/8 of an inch between the sides of his head! This is a HUGE improvement. We got back in 3 weeks for another adjustment. Kyle shouldn't have a whole lot longer left wearing his helmet!

Kyle's Improvements

We went today to get Kyle's helmet adjusted and to physical therapy.

According to the measurements, Kyle's head is 1/16 of a centimeter better! I know this doesn't sound like a lot, but it really is!

Also, his physical therapy has reduced his therapy sessions to every over week instead of weekly! She has seen great improvement in Kyle's range of motion and strength in his neck!

Kyle's Helmet

The little dude is back in his helmet. They shaved down some of the foam where it was rubbing! He seemed disappointed at first that it was back on but very quickly forgot about it!

Kyle's Helmet is Causing Problems

Yesterday Kyle wore his helmet most of the day. When we took it off last night for baths, he had a big red spot. We were told that if irritation doesn't go away within twenty minutes or so of taking the helmet off, not to put it back on until we talk to the "helmet place." So we left it off him last night and I called them this morning. They told me just to leave it off of him for today and they will check it all out tomorrow when we go in for our first adjustment.
The poor little dude still has a red spot on his head this morning. It doesn't seem to bother him, but it looks like it hurts.
Emily is enjoying some extra snuggles from her bother without his "bowling ball" (as Daddy calls it).

Kyle Got His Helmet

Kyle got his helmet today! He doesn't seem to mind it too much so far, but we'll see how he does has he starts to wear it more. Tomorrow he is supposed to wear it for an hour at a time when he's awake, then two hours the next day, then four hours the next day and during nap times, then for eight hours the next day and during nap time, and then for twenty three hours a day.

The only issues he has had for day (he really only have it on for a couple days today) is that he seems to have a hard time rolling over in it. I was told that he would get used to it soon enough and roll over just fine with it.

We also had physical therapy today for Kyle. His therapist is very impressed with how well he is doing! She has seen great improvements and thinks after a couple more weeks that Kyle will be able to go to therapy every other week instead of every week as long as we continue to work with him so well at home!

Casting

Kyle has a cast made of his head today so that his helmet can be made. It was an interesting process and Kyle did so well! We took Kyle's clothes off and then I sat on the table with a sheet over me and held him. They put a cast piece around the back of his head from ear to ear. Once that dried they put another piece over the top. We had to sit there for a little while for it all to dry. Kyle did well. He didn't seem to mind the stuff on his head; just did get fussy though because he didn't want to sit still.

Our friend Janet went with us to help with Emily. She wasn't too sure at first, but seemed to enjoy watching Kyle!

We should have his helmet is in a week or so!
