Our Story

Brent and Keyla met in the summer of 2004 at Camp Barakel (a Christian camp in northern Michigan). We worked together all summer as camp counselors, but really had no interest in each other. In the fall, we went back to school (about five hours away from each other) and talked on AIM often. Eventually our online conversations turned into phone conversations and in November of 2004, we officially started dating. In November of 2005, we got engaged, then on December 30, 2006 (two weeks after we graduated from college) we got married!

In June of 2008, we moved from Michigan to Delaware because Brent got a job as a youth pastor! We loved our church and loved the teens we worked with. Being in full time ministry is one of the best "jobs" in the world.

In July of 2010 we found out we were pregnant! A few weeks after we found out we were pregnant, we found out that there were THREE babies in Keyla's belly! A week or so later, Keyla miscarried one of the babies.

In November of 2010, we parted ways with our church. There were lots of changes happening that we were not on board with, so God removed us from the situation. It was a rough transition, but it was for the best. We put our house on the market in December of 2010 and decided to stay in Delaware until our house sells or Brent gets called to a new church.

On March 8th, 2011, we welcomed Emily Doris and Kyle Myron into the world and our lives forever were changed!

In April of 2012, we moved back to Michigan! Brent was working full time at Maxima and looking for a job as a youth pastor while Keyla continued to be a stay at home mommy!

In May of 2012, we found out we were expecting baby #3!

In the end of September, Brent got a new job as the youth director at Shiloh Community Church in Orleans, MI. He started October 1st, 2012. Because the position is only part time, for now he is still working part time at Maxima. We moved to Ionia, MI (about 15 minutes from church) in the end of October.

Colby Thomas was born January 28th, 2013!

In May of 2014, we discovered baby #4 was on the way! Peyton William was born January 7th, 2015.

  1. Several people have recommended your blog and thought you might be able to help. We have a site that caters to moms. It allows them to store digital memories and then release them to their kids in the future. We are still in the “testing” phase and wanted to see if your readers would like to participate and get a complimentary membership.

We would appreciate if you could do a blog post and/or social media mention, informing them they can visit www.kairoslife.com to register their email address.

From there we will update them when we are ready to start testing the site. Please let me know if you have any questions.
