Postcards!

In September we started a project to try to collect a postcard from all 50 states!

We asked Facebook friends and BangShift (car) friends to help us out with our project and have been amazed by all the post cards we have gotten.

We put a big US map on the wall and got special stickers for our project. We have put a sticker on the map for every post card we have received. For the most part, we have placed the stickers close to the city they were postmarked in.

The kids thought we would get the most post cards from car friends, so we decided that car friends would get car stickers on the map and everyone else would get a smiley face sticker. (It was about even, by the way!)

We've also put star stickers on the map in the states that Emily and Kyle have been to. (10 states!)

Kyle and Emily have gotten 129 postcards from 48 states. We are still missing Connecticut and Nebraska. (I've heard several times postcards are coming from these states, but we haven't received
them.)

We've also gotten several postcards from around the world. A couple from Canada, one from Japan, Puerto Rico, Korea,  and German. (I think I might be missing another country!) We've found the Canadian cities on our map on the way, but have used our world map to find where the other postcards have come from.

We've started the process of writing thank you post cards to send to everyone whose address we have that sent us a post card. We've only mailed a handful of them because Kyle and Emily only have a long enough attention span to do a few at a time!

Thank you so much to everyone who has sent Kyle and Emily a postcard... or several post cards!

Christmas Adventures Part Two

December 13:
We watched Frosty the Snowman

December 14:
We went to church for Family Night Supper and the KIA Christmas Program. The boy lost the privilege of singing in the program. Emily enjoyed singing Christmas songs on the stage with the other kids.

December 15:
The kids  made Christmas cards for all of their grandparents.

December 16:
We were supposed to watch The Grinch, but the kids were having issues following directions, so they didn't get to watch it on this day.
But we did watch it later on and then had a great discussion about loving others. The Grinch was sad and mean because no one ever showed him any love. But God loves all of us, even when we are sad and grumpy and wants us to ALWAYS love others, even when they are sad and grumpy. At the end of the movie, everyone showed the Grinch love and he wasn't so sad and mean anymore. The kids decided that we need to make sure we are always showing other love, just like Jesus did and that we can make people feel better by showing them we love them and can share God's love with them too. (Most of this was Kyle and Emily....which very little input from mommy!)

December 17:
We went to Grandma Franks' house and celebrated Christmas with her, Aunt Kara, and Bob.

December 18:
The kids all got to eat a candy cane.

December 19:
We made Wreath "Blob" treats...and ate them!

December 20:
This day's adventure was a drive to look at Christmas lights, but it got delayed a day due to bad behavior.

December 21:
We read all of the Christmas books we could find in our house as a family. My favorite is "God Bless our Christmas"

December 22:
Mommy took the kids shopping to buy Christmas presents for daddy. I told therm they couldn't just get him all candy. They did a good job of picking out snickers, socks, winter gloves (Daddy's old ones had holes in them from playing with fire), and a game.
Kyle and Emily asked if the kids could buy gifts for each other as well...because Christmas is about Jesus and celebrating His gift to us by giving gifts to others. So we went back to the store once daddy was home and each kiddo got to pick out of gift for one sibling. It was kind of fun watching them pick out the "perfect" gift!

December 23:
We made birthday cupcakes for Jesus and sang Jesus Happy Birthday.

December 24:
We went to the Christmas Eve service at church. Two years ago, someone decided to give Kyle and Emily candles during the service and now this service is something they look forward to every year because they get to sing with the adults and then hold fire at the end!

December 25:
Christmas Day!!
After breakfast we read the Christmas story from Luke and then opened presents. The kids enjoyed opening their presents from each other. From Mommy and Daddy, they got tickets to go see Paw Patrol live in February. They are kind of excited about it, but aren't really sure what it is.
Then we got to go to church. Kyle and Emily thought it was so cool that we got to go to church on Jesus' birthday to celebrate!
