Quick Ultrasound Update

I don't have the pictures scanned... maybe sometime this weekend. But they said everything looked good. Kyle is 1lb14oz and Emily is 1lb13oz... so they both gain 13oz since my last ultrasound. Their growth is still about 4% of each other (the goal is under 20%). Emily is still head down and Kyle is now in a transverse position (he was breached).
My mom and Michael got to go to my ultrasound with me and see the babies. I think it was different than they thought it would be... but it was fun to have them there!

Nursery Pictures!

We started with a mess.....
A now it's a little better... but still a work in progress....

My Great Grandma made this :)

A Trip to Michigan and a Trip to the Hospital

Last week we were able to go home to Michigan for a whole week! It's the longest we have been home since moving to Delaware. We left on Friday around 5 pm and got to my mom's house around 3:30 am on Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon we had a baby shower with my family and friends in the area. It was a lot of fun and we got lots of things for Kyle and Emily. Saturday night we headed to Battle Creek to the Christmas musical at Calvary and then spent the night at Brent's parents' house. Sunday we went to Calvary for church, had lunch with Mom and Dad, Aunt Judy, Uncle Randy, and Aunt Debbie - and then headed back to Williamston on the snowy roads! Monday night we did Christmas with my family and then just kinda hung out until Wednesday. On Tuesday we were able to hang out with Grandma and Grandpa Johnson for a little bit. Wednesday night we headed back to Battle Creek. On Thursday we went to lunch with Grandma and Grandpa Cary and celebrated Christmas with them. Brent then headed to Indiana with Jason (his brother in law) to help move stuff, and I went to another baby shower with Brent's family and friends in Battle Creek. This shower was also fun and we got more things for Kyle and Emily! Friday we celebrated Christmas with Brent's family. Saturday we celebrated Grandma's 75th birthday, hung out with some friends, and playing games with Mom, Alyssa, and Shane. Sunday we went to Northeastern and Calvary for church. After church, my mom and Mike and Kara came down to meet us and we had lunch with them, Brent's parents and Alyssa and Shane. And then... we made the long trip back to Delaware. We had a great time in Michigan with all of our family and friends! Thank you to everyone who made our trip enjoyable and who took part in the Christmas celebrations and Baby Showers.

On Monday afternoon I started having really bad pain in my belly and it kept getting really hard. I called my doctor and they told me to head over to the hospital. Apparently I was really dehydrated and that's what was causing the problems. After checking to make sure everything was okay with the babies and getting my re-hydrated, I was sent home with instructions to drink LOTS of water. I have felt much better since - just have been exhausted.

22 Weeks and Baby Names!

For those of you that don't know yet, we have decided on names for our little babies. Our little girl is Emily Doris and our little boy is Kyle Myron.

Yesterday we had another ultrasound with Maternal Fetal. Both of the babies looked good and would not stop moving the whole time. Emily and Kyle are both about a pound and about a foot long. They are growing at a good rate and are withing 4% of each other. Emily is head down and Kyle is currently in a breech position. The other good news is that Emily's placenta has moved up more and I no long have placenta previa! I only got a couple pictures because both babies had their backs out, so it was hard to get pictures of their faces. I will try to get them scanned in the next couple days.

I go tomorrow and see my OB, so we'll see what she has to say. Hopefully she will say everything is good too.

I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight finally. I never thought I would think gaining 20 pounds was a good thing... but in this case, it is very much a good thing!

In other news... our house is officially on the market!

Changes, Changes, and More Changes

There are lots of changes in our lives that have to do with preparing to have twins. And I am still adjusting to this whole being pregnant thing and having a belly that easily bumps into things or gets in the way.

On top of those changes, we have some other big changes happening. About a week and a half ago Brent was let go from church. He was told that he was no longer a good fit for the way the church was going and that "they" didn't feel he was doing a good job with the teens or the children. At first we were very upset about it, but God was helped us look on the bright side. We have had so many people who left the church (we had a church split in the end of August) contact us with their love and support, along with a few people who currently still attending the church.

Brent was let go on a Wednesday and on Friday God provided a part time job. He is delivering hoagies for a place called Primos Monday though Saturday during lunch time. In December he will also start referring basketball during the evenings. He is still looking for something to do in the mornings.

We are also going to sell our house. We have been busy getting the house ready to be put on the market. We have packed some and still need to pack more. We painted the bathroom and the room that would have been that babies' room yesterday - they needed to not be fun colors anymore. My parents are planning on making a trip out at the end of December to take a lot of our stuff back to Michigan to try to make our house less cluttered and such. We are hoping and praying that we at least break even on our house, but more than likely we are going to end up paying to sell our house.

Until the babies are born, we plan on staying in Delaware. If we sell our house before then, we will find an apartment or something. Once the babies and myself are given a clean bill of health, the currently plan (subject to change) is to move back to Michigan. Brent is applying to a couple churches in the Battle Creek/Kalamazoo area and will continue to search for churches that have openings.

Please pray for us as we go through these changes. It has been a rough week and a half, but God is good and has already blessed us so much. We look forward to seeing what God's plans are for us and seeing Him work in our lives.

Anatomy Scan

I had my 20 week anatomy scan today! I am only 19 weeks and 4 days, but they still called it the 20 week scan. Both babies are looking good and have all their fingers and toes. Their organs are all there and appear to be working like they should. Both of their heads are about 4cm in diameter and they both weigh around 10oz. It's crazy how much bigger they are, yet they still have a lot of growing to do before they are ready to come out into the real world.

This is a profile of our little boy - and yes, we know for sure he is a little boy. We saw all this little boy parts and they are a lot more defined now than they were a couple weeks ago.
This is another profile shot of our baby boy. That's all we got of him. He wasn't cooperating very well when the tech and the doctor were trying to take his pictures. He kept putting his hands over his face and curling up into a ball so they had a hard time taking all the pictures they needed of his heart. But the doctor assured us all was good!

This is our baby girl. The tech was able to take a couple good 3D pictures of her face.
In this one, you can see our baby girl sucking her thumb :)

This is just a normal profile of our baby girl. She didn't want to show her toes at first, but after a couple tries the tech found all ten toes!

Hopefully the babies will want to stay in my belly for at least another 15 weeks, but after 18 more weeks, the doctors will make them come out! It's hard to believe that we only have about four more months before we meet our wonderful little babies!

Ultrasound Pictures

Here are the ultrasound pictures from last week when I was 16 weeks and 1 day....

This is the top of both of the babies' heads.... at this time both babies were head down! Let's hope they stay that way!

This is our baby girl with her hand up to her face.
A close up of our baby girl's face...again, her hand is by her face.
Another one of our baby girl. The dark spot in the middle is her stomach!
This is our baby boy... just like his father he was being difficult when we were trying to take his picture.
You can see both of them in this one.
And in this one, our baby boy finally let us get a good picture of him.
And another one... like his sister, he has his hand up by his face.

Hope you enjoy seeing our babies as much as we do!

Another Doctor's Appt

I had an appt with my OB today. I still haven't reached my pre-pregnancy weight, but I am getting closer. We didn't get to see the babies today, but we heard their little hearts. The doctor said they both sound good. She reminded me that because I am having twins that I am at higher risk for this, that, and everything else. She said it's normal for my feet and ankles to be swelling already, and everything else. She does want me to cut my hours back at work to only working 8 hours day. Hopefully this will help me feel better and have a little bit more energy. We'll see how that all works out.
I go back to the OB in a month, but in two weeks I have my second trimester screening with maternal fetal, so we will get to see the babies!

Happy Birthday to Mommy!

I know it's not my birthday for another two weeks, but I went to Ikea yesterday got some one birthday presents. My mom and Mike wanted to get me a chair for the nursery for my birthday, but since Michigan is a little far away, and Ikea is only a half an hour away, I went to the store for them :) While I was there, I bought myself a birthday present too (but really it's for the babies' room too)!

It's A Girl! It's A Boy!

On Tuesday I had a pretty rough day. In the late morning I started having really bad cramps right under my rib cage. I called my OB's office and they said it was probably my uterus growing; that with twins it just hurts a lot worse because my uterus is growing twice as fast as it would with just one baby. The nurse told me if the pain got worse or if I had an spotting or contractions to call them back. A little while later I had a little bit of spotting, so I called them back and was sent for an ultrasound just to make sure everything was okay. The nurse was very reassuring and said it most likely wasn't anything to worry about.
Brent couldn't go to my ultrasound with me because he had a meeting at church, so my friend Modesty went with me. Both of the babies looked great. They both were about 5 ounces and had healthy little hearts and were moving all around in my belly. The ultrasound tech informed us that Baby A is a little girl and Baby B is a little boy! I was a little sad that Brent wasn't there, but it was fun to tell him and has been fun to share the news with people.
Knowing that one baby is a little girl and one is a little boy has made the fact that we are having twins seem a little more real. We have given them names and it's weird calling them by their names and knowing that there are these two little humans inside of my belly! I am very excited for March to get here and to meet our little babies!

4 Months Pregnant

It's kinda crazy to think that tomorrow I will be four months pregnant! We're almost half way there... but we know it, these babies are gonna be out in the world!

My belly continues to grow... and with that growing I have to adjust more of what I am wearing. My jeans haven't fit me for a while, but I was still wearing my normal shirts, and they really don't fit all that well anymore. And most of my maternity shirts are still a little bit, so I am stuck somewhere in the middle. Soon enough though my belly will get past the "big" stage and be huge.

I am starting to feel better... but still have my times where I feel pretty miserable. Monday afternoon I ended up going back to the hospital because I was throwing up so much again. I felt pretty good the rest of the week, but right now my belly isn't too happy. Hopefully soon I will be completely over this getting sick stuff.

Brent's Aunt Debbie and her friend Carol are visiting us this weekend. We picked them up on Friday in Philly and went to the Eastern State Penitentiary (its the first penitentiary that was built in the USA). I went there with my parents a while back... and joked this time that the babies haven't even been born yet and they have been in a prison twice. Yesterday we went to Baltimore and just wandered around the inner harbor and went to Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. Today we went to The Cheesecake Factory after church and then went to Target. Aunt Debbie bought the babies some bath duckies, a toy lion and elephant, and some diapers. :)

Bigger and Bigger and Bigger

My belly is really starting to grow. I haven't been able to wear my normal jeans for a while now, but over the past week or so it seems like my belly has just "popped" out. It's kinda weird... and crazy to think how big it's gonna end up being because I already feel like it's huge!

I'm starting to feel better finally. I haven't throw up in five days! I have been having headaches still, but I will take those any day over throwing up. I've also had growing pains as the babies are stretching out my uterus. They are the weirdest thing ever... not really sure how to describe them. I still don't have much energy and haven't been sleeping well at night, hopefully that will change soon now that I am feeling better.

I have felt movement for a week and a half or so. Nothing major yet, just some flutters and "popping" in my belly, but it definitely is the babies. It seems early, but the doctors and nurses have told me that I would start to feel the babies sooner because of the fact there are babies and not a baby. That's been exciting. I am looking forward to feeling more constant and distinct movement - and looking forward to when Brent and see and feel the movement too!

One Down, Two To Go

As of yesterday I am officially in my second trimester! Only 24 weeks to go and the babies will be here!

I thought starting my second trimester would make the throwing up and feeling crappy go away... I was right until I ate dinner last night... and then my belly proved me wrong :(

Doctor's Appointment

I had an appointment today with my doctor. Everything went well. She had trouble finding both babies heart beats with the Doppler, so I ended up getting an ultrasound as well. It was a bedside machine and I couldn't really see too much, but the doctor saw both of the babies and both of their heartbeats and said everything looked good. I don't go back now for four weeks, so hopefully between now and then everything will be fine and there won't be any more hospital visits!

Another Trip to the Hosptial

Yesterday morning I woke up about 3:00am and threw up... then was very hungry, so I ate something....and then threw that up. Then then about a half an hour later, threw up again.... and then again... and that's kinda how most of my morning went. By lunch time I was VERY hungry, so I ate and it stayed down for a while....but eventually I threw it up. I was feeling pretty miserable and dehydrated, so I called my doctor and they sent me back to the OB triage to get re hydrated. I got there about 4:45 and was checked-in/registered pretty quickly, but then several ladies showed up in active labor, so I had to wait a while for a room. Brent had to leave to go to church for Wednesday night stuff, so I called Karen (my "Delaware Mom") and she came and sat with me most of the night. About 6:45 or so I finally got put in a room and they took a urine sample. The nurse didn't even wait for the doctor to tell her to start my IV because of how dehydrated I was. They pumped me full of LOTS of took a bag and a half before I had to pee the first time...if that tells you anything! They also gave me meds to calm down my stomach. At 8:30 or so they let me eat some crackers and ginger ale. It took me almost an hour to eat/drink it.... but shortly after it was gone, some of it came back up. They gave me more don't throw up meds.... and I still threw up again a little while later. Around mid-night they sent me home.... I came home and slept better than I have slept in a long time! I ate my breakfast about an half hour ago and still don't feel like I am going to throw up!! :) So now I think it's about time to get ready and try to go to work.

This is Baby B with his/her arms holding his/her legs
This is another one of Baby B just chillin'
This is Baby A sucking his/her thumb
This is Baby A hangin' out
This is a close up of Baby A's face

The printed pictures didn't turn out as clear as the other ones. The ultrascan was a higher level ultrasound so a lot more details were visable. We could see everything very clearly on the screen...

Healthy Babies, Healthy Mommy

My appointment about my thyroid went well. The doctor explained that the TSH is what is low, which means my brain things my thyroid is producing too many hormones. He called an endocrinologist to double check, but apparently this is pretty normal in pregnancy. The receptors in the brain that measure the thyroid hormones are the same receptors that measure HcG (the pregnancy hormone). The endocrinologist recommended waiting a couple weeks and getting more blood work done - and there is there are still abnormalities, I will go see the endocrinologist. The doctor said he didn't think it was anything to worry about.

My ultrasound went really well too! Both of the babies were active and looked really healthy. Both are about 5 cm from crown to rump and everything is measuring where is it supposed to be. Baby A likes to suck his/her thumb and baby B likes to stick out his/her tounge. Both babies are pretty good at doing flips, stretching out, and kicking/punching eachother and me. We could see their little faces and their little fingers and little feet. We also heard both of their heart beats and everything sounded good!

I will try to scan the pictures later and post them, but for now... it's nap time for mommy!

Appointment, Appointment, Appointment

Last Friday I had my first appt at my regular OB's office. I didn't meet with the doctor, just the nurse. She took TUNS of info from us and a bunch of blood. I really like the office and have heard great things about them. Next Friday I have my first appointment with the doctor.

Monday morning the office called with all of my lab results. Everything looked good except for my thyroid levels, which were REALLY low. The nurse told me to schedule an appt with my PCP as soon as possible to get on thyroid meds. I have an appt scheduled with them tomorrow. Hopefully that will go well and then meds will make it all better.

Then tomorrow afternoon I have an appt scheduled for an ultrasound. I am very excited to see my babies again! It's been two an a half weeks since my last ultra sound, they are going to be HUGE compaired to last time I saw them!!

I think I am finally starting to feel better. I didn't throw up at all on Sunday, only once yesterday, and haven't yet today. Today I have been hungery and able to yet normal size meals and not feel sick from them. I hope this is something that continues to happen!! I also have been sleeping better the past couple nights. I still have been waking up to go potty every three hours or so, but I have been able to fall right back asleep. I have been having issues falling back asleep after going to the bathroom....most times I was awake for an hour or so every time I had to go potty, so this is a HUGE improvement. Hopefully this also keeps up!

I'm so finally starting to gain weight! (Never thought I would be excited about that) My belly is getting bigger too! Depending on what I am wearing, I actually am starting to look pregnant! It's crazy cause I am only 12 weeks along, but the books all say that my uterus is the size of a singleton pregnancy at 18 weeks, so I guess it makes sence. By the time I am 26 weeks, I should be about the size of a full term singleton pregnancy - that's kind of scary!

I'll try to post pictures tomorrow after my ultrasound!

A Trip to the Hospital

The last couple days I have not been feeling well. Yesterday everything I ate or drank came back up. This morning I still didn't feel very good and didn't keep down my breakfast, so I called the doctor and they told me to go to the hospital. And so I did... they gave me an IV and re hydrated me and gave me some different meds to keep me from throwing up. I could definitely tell the difference after the first IV bag. After I was feeling better and had kept something down, they sent me home! So now I am home and gonna sleep the rest of the afternoon :)

And the news is out!

We told Grandma and Grandpa Cary today when they got to our house! They were excited for us. After then left, Brent tried calling the rest of his family. I told most of my family throughout last week. On Sunday we'll start telling more people at church... and probably after my appt a week from today will post our news on facebook! It's exciting telling people... it makes it feel more real - not that the nausea and such doesn't...but it's not as exciting as telling people.

I'm having good days and bad days with how I am feeling. On Wednesday I felt great, the best that I have in a long time. But Wednesday night I started throwing up again and was misirable most of Thursday. Today I am feeling pretty good... so hopefully there will start being more good days than bad!

We Were Discharged!

...from the fertility specialist! It's kind of bitter sweet. I have come to look forward to seeing the staff and the doctor every week. I love the nurse and the ultrasound tech, so it was sad to say good bye. But at the same time, this means that I am moving along in my pregnancy and getting that match closer to meeting these amazing little mircles that God has put in my belly!

They took lots of ultrasound pictures today. It amazes me how much bigger the babies have gotten each week. Last week they were almost 2cm and this week they are almost 4cm. It's crazy. And they look more and more like babies. They have big heads and little arms and bodies. There little hearts look good and the babies don't know how to stay still. The ultrasound tech was having a hard time getting clear pictures and measurements because the babies were moving around so much. It was pretty cool to watch.

My next appointment is two weeks from today and it will be with my new OB.

I told the rest of my co-workers on Wednesday that I was pregnant with twins. Some were really excited - others didn't seem to care so much. But now they all know why I have been a little cranky lately and going pee every two seconds and been so sleepy, so they can stop asking questions.

Next weekend Brent's parents and grandparents will be here. So we will tell Grandma and Grandpa Cary then, and then start to call more family and such. I love telling people who I know will be excited - their reactions are so much fun to watch!

Growing, Growing, Growing

I had another appointment on Friday. Everything looked good! Both babies were almost 2 cm long and both had heart rates of 160.

I'm starting to feel a little better. I am still exhausted all the time, but the nausea is getting better and I am keeping down most of the food I eat.

We've started telling a few more people at church. We plan on making the news public in two weeks. Brent's grandparents are going to be here, so we'll tell them and then start to tell other family and friends and such.

Everything Looks Good

I had another appointment today! It was a bit crazy getting there because the main road was closed due to a fatal car accident. Luckily, I have an amazing husband who found a way for me to get around it and get to my appointment on time!

Both of the babies look good. It's amazing to see how much bigger they have gotten in the last week. They are both about a centimeter long and have good little hearts. It's pretty cool to see their hearts beating!

The doctor told me he would see me three more times and then discharge me to my normal OB. We've decided that I am going to switch OB/Gyn's because my current one delivers at a hospital that doesn't have as good of an NICU. This wouldn't really be a concern if we were just having one baby, but because it's twins I want to make sure we are in a place that has everything they may need if there are any problems. I called the new OB's office today and made my first appointment with them for September 17th. At that point I will be nearing the end of my first trimester - pretty crazy.

Interesting fact I learned today about being pregnant: you bruise more easily. When the nurse took blood last week, it left a bruise. This isn't that abnormal for me normally, but she has taken my blood several times over the past 6 months and has only bruised me once. She explained to me that because of the increased blood flow when your pregnant you tend to bruise way easier. Which would explain the random massive bruise on the back of my leg.

I told my grandma today that I was pregnant with twins. She was way supper excited and I'm pretty sure it made her day, which made me excited.

Bad News and Good News

I had a doctors appointment yesterday.

Bad News
I miscarried one of the babies.

Good News
The twins look great! They are both about the same size and the size that they should be. We got to see their little hearts beating on the ultra sound. It was pretty cool.

We told our parents about the twins, but are still waiting to tell other people - most people still don't even know I am pregnant. Will probably wait another five weeks or so.

They gave me medicine to help with the throwing up! Its pretty much my new favorite drug. Except, when I forgot to take another dose last night, I threw up again!

My parents and Kara are here for the weekend, so we are having fun with them!

So Sleepy....

Over the weekend I slept tons and tons. Going back to work on Monday kicked my butt. I was so tried by lunch time and desperately wanted to take a nap! Today was the same story.

My belly has been giving me issues too. I constantly feel like I am going to throw up and am constantly starving. It's the strangest feeling. Friday and Saturday I had issues keeping food down, Sunday and Monday I did good and didn't throw up all day. This morning... I threw up again. I was doing good and eating my oat meal when my boss decided to tell me how nasty my oak meal looked - and that was the end of the oat meal and my not throwing up streak. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

On Sunday part of my tooth fell out. I knew it was cracked, but the dentist wanted to wait until I was in my second trimester to do anything about it, so I had an appt schedule in October for a crown, but now I go in on Thursday to see what they can do to fix it now - I don't want to go another eight weeks with this hole in my mouth.

My mom and Mike and Kara will be here Thursday thru Monday, so let's see if we can keep the whole more than one baby secret from them! I also have another appt with my doctor on Friday for more bloodwork and another ultrasound. I'm looking forward to seeing the little babies again and to see how they are growing!

Not one... not two... but THREE

I had my first ultrasound on Wednesday morning. We were very suprised to see three little black spots in my uterus! The idea of triplets is unreal - it's exciting and terriying and everything else all at the same time.
After my ultrasound we waiting a couple minutes to see the doctor. His comment was "that's a lot of college to pay for." So true... then he started to explain the situation to us. Two of the babies are normal size as to where they should be. The third is about half the size. He said that most cases like this end up with what's called vanishing twin syndrom - meaning that I may miscary the smallest baby. We'll have to watch it over the next couple weeks to see what happens - my doctor seems to think though that we are going to end up with twins.
My doctor recommended that we don't tell people yet that we are expecting multiples - not even our parents and closest friends. He said it's best to wait until we know for sure if the third little guy is going to hang on or if he is going to "vanish." So for now, it's our secret. The secret is harder to keep than the fact that I am pregnant because there is so much to it (or so many!)!

Emotionally, I think Brent and I are both a little overwhelmed at the thought of having three babies! His thoughts pertain to the "how are we going to pay for three babies" and mine are "how are we going to take care of three babies". If we have triplets, or even twins, it wouldn't make much sense for me to go back to work after the babies are born - I wouldn't be making much after paying for daycare. So we would have to come up with a way to afford for all of us to live off of Brent's income... which isn't a whole lot considering he is in ministry full time. But, I am confident that God will provide us with everything that we need - there just are going to be some major adjustments and changes.

Physically, I am doing okay. I am tried all the time and not sleeping very well. It seems like I wake up every couple hours either because I have to pee or I am hungery! I'm also having lots of morning sickness - or all the time sickness. I've only thrown up a couple times...but I constantly feel like I am going too. It's the strangest feeling - feeling like I am going to throw up and being starving at the same time. My boobs also hurt all the time and have already started to get bigger. It's crazy how much I already feeling my body changing... and I am only 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant!

We're Finally Pregnant!

After over a year of trying and three IUI's there is finally a baby in my belly.

We are way excited!!!!!

Still waiting to get a hold of the doctor's office - they are currently closed for lunch.
